Lately, I’ve been reading Night is a Sharkskin Drum by Haunani-Kay Trask. There are many days living in Hawai’i Nei has filled me with sheer bliss — from wading in the water with my friends, to watching the sunset as I sit on my rooftop. It’s a truly blessed experience, but I am not blind to the heart and soul being leeched from the land.

I hope this poem imbues you with the same joy and grief concoction that I have felt these last few months.
